At Larkspur Educational Trust, students are encouraged to actively learn, practice and hone their baking and culinary skills, because we believe that inculcation of life skills is extremely crucial to improve the students’ quality of life. Also, students experience genuine fun and rejuvenation while cooking, that comes as a refreshing retreat from the brisk schedule of gritty academics. It gives them a reason to look forward to coming to school enjoyably and perhaps even discover their inherent passion in the activity, that they were unaware of. Baking is a fun way to support your child’s development, and can tap into a child's motivation and promote a plethora of learning, play, life skills, motor skills and social skills. The students of Larkspur absolutely love their Baking and Cooking Sessions and have whipped up drool-worthy treats like yummy Sandwiches, Coleslaw Salad, Pani Puri, Murukkus from scratch, Avocado milkshake, and so on.
Larkspur conducts Gardening Sessions for the students with the objective of arousing concern in them about caring for the environment and its living components like plants and flowers. There is a lovely collection of various growing plants and flower shrubs in the school premises that the students themselves love tending to. They water the plants every day, remove their unwanted weeds and dried leaves, and are proud to be the green thumbs of our school. Connecting with and nurturing these plants teaches them the significance of conserving our eco-system, as a responsibility that is both cheerful and relaxing. The school is also in the process of setting up a one-of-a-kind Greenhouse. The hands-on, practical nature of gardening teaches the students to become active learners. They use their senses like touch, sight, and smell while doing Gardening, which leads to their cognitive progression. The students also learn to
The Painting Sessions at Larkspur are something that must be experienced and felt and not just attended. Under the watchful expertise of our amazingly talented Ms. Sanober, the students dabble with fusing colours to create an expression of creativity. The Larkspurites are taught the art and technique of Watercolour Painting, Textured Painting, Object Drawing, Doodling, Madhubani art, Warli art, Pencil Sketching and Shading, Poster colour Painting, and different art forms that make their Painting Sessions delightful and novel, helping them to unwind and channelize the artist in them. They learn to develop patience, perseverance, and exercise their motor and eye- hand co-ordination skills. As a form of visual art, painting is a way for artists to express themselves. Painting is also important to help improve creativity, improve cultural appreciation, and has various physical and emotional benefits, such as improving focus and building self-esteem.
Adding a little bit of drama and theatre in life stirs in lots of excitement, thrill and magic and the students of Larkspur Educational Trust completely agree! They find great joy in enacting fascinating plays, situations, classic characters, expressions and emotions in their Dramatics Sessions and enjoy delivering their performances to the fullest. Drama helps the students enhance their verbal and nonverbal expression of ideas. It improves voice projection, articulation of words, fluency with language, and persuasive speech. Listening and observation skills develop by playing drama games, being an audience, rehearsing, and performing. Theatre is a creative medium that opens up to experiencing different perspectives that we may not have contemplated. Theatre's realistic way of examining dialogue, monologue, plot, storyline and character allows to flex our empathy muscles. As quoted by Augusto Boal- “Dramatics is the art of looking at ourselves.”
In their Art and Craft Sessions, our students are taught to bring out their creative juices and pursue their artistic instincts. They have a separate Art and Craft Activity Book with a versatile curriculum of colouring/painting pictures, creating beautiful craft items like pop-up Greeting Cards using art materials, and learning art techniques that equip them to enjoy the sublime pleasure of indulging in Art and Craft. We understand that it is an integral tool in child development that fuels their curiosity, creativity, imagination prowess and provides them with an unconstrained outlet to observe, express, explore, and excel through creating things. At the same time, Art and Craft simultaneously helps the students discover and familiarize themselves, others, and the environment around them. Larkspur very proactively fosters creativity in various forms amongst students, as a significant element.
Photography is the science of capturing the beauty of the world around you with a camera in the form of an image to cherish and preserve our fond memories. The Larkspurites are trained to take defined shots of many themes like people, nature, objects, and varied scenarios in their Photography Sessions. Through photography, they learn to be spontaneous, focussed, and keen observers of the world around them. Photographs play an important role in everyone's life – they connect us to our past, they remind us of people, places, feelings, and stories. They can help us to know who we are. Photography has the power to inspire many people and could lead to a change for the better. It builds awareness, helps us connect with others and is the universal language that speaks to the heart. Every sight and spectacle look splendid through a photographer’s eye and we motivate our students to learn, live and savour the experience.
In our Needle Work Sessions, the Larkspurites believe that the needle is mightier than the sword! They are taught to deftly stitch, sew, and practice the intriguing art of embroidery, knitting and crocheting and bring alive gorgeous patterns of coloured thread. Needle Work improvises their fine motor movements, aesthetic skills, and stimulates concentration. It also teaches skills on the basics of composition and colour science, and helps the child feel needed, special and unique. Needle Work is not only decorative and ornamental in application, providing a sense of rewarding satisfaction but it is also a necessary functional and utilitarian skill in day-to-day life. The students of Larkspur are always given the gifted opportunity to excel beyond academics, and also learn life skills and creative skills, aiding in their personality development that can help them soar to great heights of success.
Children enjoy and find great happiness in playing with all sorts of toys, be it dolls, (with moving arms and legs), balls, toy soldiers, spinning tops, hobby horses, tiny toy containers, puzzles, building blocks and so many more. Nowadays, children have a huge selection of mass-produced, commercial toys, but folk toys and modest homemade ones – the kind that delighted children in the good old days – are also in demand, so the craft of Toy making is very much alive. At Larkspur, in their Toy making Sessions, the students are taught to make handmade toys, as a sincere effort to revive a traditional craft that is fun to make, play and learn. Using simple craft materials, the students learn how to make diverse toys, and are taught to supplement their learning by making both fun and educational toys. Children learn a lot from Toy making. It sparks their imagination, gives them a chance to bond with each other, and also have fun. This enjoyable craft helps the child to retain the skills that they learn, thus helping them develop a positive attitude and an interested inclination towards learning.
